Showband legend Paddy Cole has died following a long battle with incurable lung cancer.
The veteran sax player and singer, who turned 85 last December 17, passed away at St Vincent’s Hospital in Dublin this afternoon.
One of the kings of Irish showbusiness for the last 70 years – he was just 15 when he first joined a band – Paddy was a native of Castleblayney, Co Monaghan, but had made his home in Dublin.
In 2019, the much-loved performer was honoured with a two-storey mural in Castleblayney.
