Former football Premier League star reveals he is suffering from dementia

DEAN WINDASS has been diagnosed with dementia at the age of 55, Manchester United legend David May revealed on television.

David Beckham is now urging football authorities to provide greater support for players suffering from the neurodegenerative disease.

Windass initially retired in 2009 but made brief comebacks over the following three years. Now, still only in his mid-50s, he has recently received the devastating diagnosis regarding his health.

May, 54, appeared on BBC Breakfast on Friday morning alongside Nobby Stiles’ son, John. With Windass’s permission, the former Manchester United and Blackburn defender said: “I only spoke to Dean Windass yesterday, ex-professional footballer.

“I asked Deano how he is. “He’s been diagnosed with Stage 2 dementia. “He’s the same age as me and he’s worried sick of how it’s going to be in the future for him.”
