Lucy Letby supporters host birthday ‘celebration’ for killer in London pub

Supporters of Lucy Letby gathered at a pub to mark her 35th birthday with prosecco, homemade banners, and a large cake bearing her name. Letby, a former nurse, spent her birthday in prison on January 4 after being convicted of murdering seven babies and attempting to murder seven others in a neonatal unit.

The gathering took place at The Windmill pub on Clapham Common and was attended by six people who met through a Facebook group called “Lucy Letby Discussions”. The group discusses their belief in Letby’s innocence and advocates for her release. Photos from the private Facebook page show attendees holding a homemade banner that reads “happy birthday Lucy” and “a blatant miscarriage of justice”. The group drank prosecco, and the booking was made under the name “Lucy”, visible on a reserved card on the table.

A friend of a parent whose premature baby daughter was killed by Letby, who saw the posts, expressed outrage, saying, “There are families who will never get to celebrate their children’s birthdays. What’s next, do we have celebrations for Myra Hindley and Ian Brady?”

One attendee, who goes by the pseudonym Lulu Tee, 45, a carer from South London, denied it was a birthday celebration, telling SWNS: “It was just a meetup of people from the groups. We wanted to get together to toast her birthday and discuss the case. The organiser arranged a cake and a few banners to highlight that it was a miscarriage of justice.”

She continued: “There was a plan to sing happy birthday and record a message for her saying we’re thinking of her and feel it’s unfair she isn’t able to celebrate the things she should be celebrating, if she’s innocent. Meanwhile, the people who are at fault are not in prison.”
