The lawyer representing child serial killer Lucy Letby is set to hand over ‘fresh’ medical evidence to an independent body in an attempt to clear her name.
Mark McDonald is due to submit the full findings of a 14-member international panel of neonatologists and paediatric specialists, who argue that poor medical care and natural causes were responsible for babies collapsing at the Countess of Chester Hospital neonatal unit.
Dr Shoo Lee, leader of the panel, said there was ‘no evidence’ that Letby murdered any babies, attributing the deaths and injuries to ‘natural causes or just bad medical care’.
He will present those findings, along with a separate report from seven medics which challenges the reliability of insulin test results on two infants—a key factor in the jury’s conclusion that Letby poisoned them—to the Criminal Cases Review Commission (CCRC).
Letby, 35, from Hereford, is serving 15 whole-life orders after being convicted in two trials at Manchester Crown Court of murdering seven babies and attempting to murder seven others, including two attempts on one of her victims.
