Several people have reportedly been killed in a horrific mass shooting that erupted in a city in Sweden – with police currently searching for a man who fled on an electric scooter.
Officers said they received multiple calls from members of the public reporting loud bangs near Vaksala Square in Uppsala shortly after 5pm on Tuesday afternoon. A major police operation has since been launched, with a helicopter circling the area and cordons in place around Hjalmar Brantingsgatan – a main street in central Uppsala – close to Vaksalatorget.
The Swedish Transport Administration has suspended train services due to the police operation, and it remains unclear whether the perpetrator has been apprehended. Local news outlet Corriere della Sera reports that three people have so far been killed, although authorities have not yet confirmed the exact number of casualties.
