A 55-year-old man has died, and 25 others were injured following a collision between a lorry and a high-speed train. Six of those injured are in a serious condition after the crash, which occurred outside Hamburg, Germany, on Tuesday.
The windows at the front of the train were shattered when it crashed into the lorry, which was carrying rails, at the crossing.
The 55-year-old man was resuscitated at the scene but later died from his injuries, a fire department spokesperson confirmed. There were 291 people on board the train at the time, and those who were uninjured were taken to a nearby station by bus.
A woman on the train told the DPA news agency that a loud impact was heard when it suddenly braked. Pictures from the scene show the lorry’s load scattered across the crash site. It is not yet clear what caused the crash, but the lorry driver has been taken in for questioning.
