Major police incident at memorial after horror stabbing

Police rushed to a Holocaust Memorial in Berlin following reports of a knife attack in which one man was stabbed and taken to hospital with “serious” injuries, while others at the scene were treated for shock.

The attack is said to have occurred at the Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe in Mitte, Berlin’s central borough, near the US Embassy. Officers confirmed that a man who sustained serious injuries had been taken to hospital, while rescue workers treated witnesses at the scene for shock.

A press conference is expected to take place later this evening, the police added. Berlin Police stated in a tweet: “At around 6pm, a man was seriously injured by an unknown person in the field of stelae at the Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe in #Mitte. The injured man was taken to hospital.”
