Police officer stabbed with large machete by 2 men on moped

An off-duty police officer has been stabbed after attempting to stop a robbery outside a shopping centre. The heroic officer was attacked with a “large machete” in broad daylight as he tried to prevent two men from stealing a moped in Luton, Bedfordshire.

Emergency services were called to Luton Point on George Street at around 1:10 pm on Saturday. The officer, who serves with the Met Police, was brutally stabbed before the attackers fled on one of their own mopeds as well as the stolen one.

He was then rushed to hospital, where he is still being treated for injuries that are not believed to be life-threatening.

The suspects are described as being in their early 20s, according to Bedfordshire Police. One of the men was wearing a black jacket and trousers, while the other was dressed in a dark-coloured jacket and grey tracksuit bottoms with a white stripe down the side.

Police are now appealing for anyone with information to come forward.
