REVEALED: The MILLIONS it will cost the taxpayer to keep Southport killer locked up

As calls grow louder for the sentence of the Southport killer to be extended, it has been revealed how much it will cost the taxpayer to keep him in prison.

The staggering figure comes just a day after Axel Rudakubana was sentenced to a minimum of 52 years in prison for stabbing to death Alice da Silva Aguiar, aged nine, Bebe King, aged six, and Elsie Dot Stancombe, aged seven. He also attempted to murder eight others, including two adults who tried to save them, during a Taylor Swift dance class in July.

As Rudakubana was nine days short of his 18th birthday, a visibly frustrated judge was unable to impose a sentence that would guarantee the killer would spend the rest of his life in prison.

On average, across Britain’s 10 category A prisons, it will cost £53,000 per year to keep Rudakubana incarcerated. Over the course of 52 years, this will amount to an eye-watering £2,756,000 for the taxpayer.
