A 66-year-old woman has been charged in connection with the death of a five-year-old girl in 1978.
Janice Nix has been charged with manslaughter following the death of Andrea Bernard.
The young girl, who was known to Nix, was taken to a specialist burns unit after she was allegedly assaulted at an address in Ashley Road, Thornton Heath, on 6 June 1978.
She died more than a month later, on 13 July, due to the severity of her injuries.
Nix has also been charged with child cruelty towards another child, who was eight years old at the time. The offences were reported in September 2022, prompting an investigation.
